Lagos Introduces Electric Buses for Mass Transit

Lagos, also known as Èkó, with a population of over 24 million people as of 2022, is home to most tech innovations in Nigeria. It is also the most populous city not just in Nigeria, but also in Africa. Additionally, Lagos is a prominent financial centre on the continent, attracting businesses and investments from all over the world.

Electric buses are gaining popularity in the transportation industry due to their numerous advantages over traditional fueled buses. These buses are propelled using electric motors, which produce zero emissions and significantly reduce noise pollution, making them an ideal choice for public transportation.

The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has announced a new development for the Lagos Mass transit. This is the unveiling of new electric buses for public transportation, modified with the ability to travel 280km at full charge, taking into account the unique travel times in Lagos.

Governor Sanwo-Olu’s announcement included a partnership with Oando PLC, to build a cleaner and greener public transportation system. As part of their electric bus initiative, the Lagos State government’s collaboration with Oando, involves strategically installing Universal Electric Vehicle Chargers at public locations such as malls and gas stations.
