Florida: Hurricane Debby Makes Landfall

Florida is a state in the Southeastern region of the United States. It is bordered by Georgia and Cuba; it is the only state that borders both the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean. With a population of over 22 million residents as of 2023, it is the third-most populous state in the United States.

According to reports, Hurricane Debby made landfall as a Category 1 storm in the Big Bend region northwest of Florida’s Gulf Coast, which will result in heavy rainfall and severe flooding with winds of up to 80 mph.

The report further mentions that over 200,000 homes and businesses are without power in the state as a result of the storm, about 17,000 workers have already been deployed to restore power. Hurricane Debby will eventually be downgraded to a tropical storm as it makes its way over the Atlantic Ocean and will bring heavy rainfall moving through Georgia and South Carolina.

In August 2023, Incognito blog reported Hurricane Idalia making landfall as a tropical storm in Cedar Key, an island in Florida, which resulted in severe destruction of properties.
