SEGA $776 Million Rovio Deal

Sega Corporation is a multinational video game and entertainment company founded in 1960, with its headquarters in Tokyo, Japan. In 2001, the entertainment company stopped manufacturing video game consoles and pivoted to developing game software’s, before being acquired by Sammy Corporation in 2004. Sega is now a subsidiary of Sega Sammy Holdings.

One popular video game produced by the company is sonic the hedgehog, released in 1991 and reportedly one of the bestselling video games at the time, with over 20 million copies sold globally.

Rovio Entertainment Limited is a video game development company founded in 2003 by 3 students at the Helsinki University of Technology, Finland. The company’s renowned portfolio includes the famous angry birds video game.

In a recent post by Sega, the multinational video game company announced the addition of Rovio entertainment to its list of subsidiaries, after closing an acquisition deal of $776 million USD.
