T-Mobile, the American wireless network operator, has announced plans to buy almost all of United States Cellular’s wireless operations for $4.4 billion USD.
This deal will allow US Cellular to retain 70% of its spectrum portfolio, ownership of 4,400 towers, and equity-method investments. It will also grant T-Mobile a long-term lease to 2,600 towers.
The report further states that T-Mobile will pay cash and up to $2 billion in debt to US Cellular’s debt holders. The deal is expected to close in mid-2025, pending regulatory approvals.
