Kyrgyzstan, officially the Kyrgyz Republic, is a landlocked country in Central Asia, with a population of over 7 million residents as of 2023. It is bordered by Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and China.
According to reports, the government of Kyrgyzstan has announced a nationwide ban on the popular Chinese-owned video-sharing app TikTok. This comes from the country’s security service, which said ByteDance, TikTok’s parent company, had failed to adhere to legal requirements aimed at safeguarding children’s well-being.
The report further mentions that users attempting to access TikTok received an error message indicating the app’s unavailability. Kyrgyzstan is the latest country to ban the app, joining other regions like Nepal, Somalia, and New York.
