Nepal to ban TikTok

The Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal, commonly referred to as Nepal, is a landlocked country in South Asia. It shares borders with the Tibet Autonomous Region of China to the north and India to the south, east, and west. Boasting of an estimated population of 30.6 million residents as of 2022.

According to recent reports, the government of Nepal has announced a nationwide ban on the popular Chinese-owned video-sharing app TikTok. The decision came after the government unveiled the “Directives on the Operation of Social Networking 2023,” which requires all social media platforms operating in the country to set up a liaison office.

Following backlash over cybercrime, obstruction of social harmony and abuse, the government has ordered Internet service providers in the country to shut down the TikTok app. Joining regions like Somalia, and New York.
