Nigeria: MultiChoice $37.3 Million Tax Settlement

MultiChoice is a satellite television company owned by media conglomerate, MultiChoice Group. The company operates subscriber television services like DStv, GOtv and Showmax, with majority of its subscribers based in Africa. MultiChoice was founded in 1994, boasts of over 20 million African subscribers, and its headquarters is located in Randburg, South Africa.

According to recent reports, MultiChoice has agreed to pay Nigeria’s Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) a back tax amount of $37.3 million USD. The report further reiterates that MultiChoice Nigeria had its bank accounts frozen in 2022 due to unpaid taxes, with the initial fine imposed on the company totaling over $1 billion USD.
