Hawaii is one of the largest islands in the United States, known for its active rainforests, beaches, and waterfalls. It is a popular tourist destination, attracting millions of visitors annually.
A series of wildfires has destroyed parts of historic Hawaii’s Maui Island, with Reuters reporting at least 36 people dead and multiple structures impacted. The fire has also taken out the area’s electricity and phone lines which has made it unclear how much the fire has affected surrounding areas where numerous resorts are located.
Non-essential travel to the affected island is being discouraged by Government officials, with airlines waiving change fees for travel from/to the areas. Additional flights and ground transportation are also being provided to help people get off the island.
