63 kilograms of Cannabis Confiscated

The cannabis plant, hailing from Central Asia, is renowned for its psychoactive properties and has been leveraged for centuries for recreational, entheogenic, and therapeutic pursuits. Popularly known as marijuana, this substance is presently legal for consumption in a significant proportion of the United States and Canada.

According to Vanguard News, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Nigeria seized 126 parcels of Cannabis, weighing 63 kilograms, at the Tincan port in Lagos. The cannabis was discovered concealed in a used Toyota Corolla car imported from Toronto, Canada.

During a separate operation yesterday April 29, NDLEA operatives at the SAHCO export section of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, Nigeria, foiled an attempt to export 900 grams of Cannabis. The illicit substance had been concealed within the walls of a travelling bag that was being used to transport food items to Kenya.

It is important to note that cannabis is illegal in Nigeria, and with the support of all citizens, the NDLEA re-affirm it’s position on the war against illicit drugs in the country. This report comes shortly after the recent execution of a Singaporean citizen in Singapore for drug trafficking offenses involving cannabis.
