Russia’s communications regulator, Roskomnadzor, has announced plans to ban Discord, a popular communication platform, due to non-compliance with the country’s laws.
According to reports, Roskomnadzor accused the platform of posting extremist content, including child sexual abuse material, which is not in line with the country’s localization laws.
The report further mentions that the Russian military relies on Discord to coordinate communications since it does not have its own platforms in place to support secure messaging. Facebook and X have also been blocked in the country since the start of the war.
