Samsung SDI and General Motors (GM) have announced plans to invest $3.5 billion USD to build a joint electric vehicle battery factory in Indiana, United States.
According to reports, the manufacturing plant is expected to have an annual production capacity of 27 gigawatt hours (GWh) and plans to expand to 36 GWh as mass production is expected to begin in 2027.
The report further mentions that the factory will produce prismatic battery cells, which will be added to General Motors’ portfolio to increase performance and lower costs, as well as enhance both companies’ electric vehicle offerings.
