Wildfires in Brazil’s Sugarcane Fields

Wildfires are burning through sugarcane fields in the northern part of São Paulo state, in Brazil’s southeast, which has resulted in the destruction of houses, plants, and livestock.

According to reports, the fires have destroyed over 200 hectares of sugarcane plantation and led to the halt of operations in a plant in Sertãozinho, owned by Raízen, the world’s largest sugarcane processor.

The report further mentions that 2 firefighters lost their lives while battling the flames, and about 36 cities are on high alert due to the fires that have spread, forcing the closure of state highways due to reduced visibility.
