2,492-Carat Diamond Unearthed In Botswana

Botswana, officially the Republic of Botswana, is a landlocked country in Southern Africa. It is bordered by South Africa, Namibia, Zambia, and Zimbabwe, with a population of over 2.4 million residents as of 2023.

According to reports, a 2,492-carat diamond has been unearthed from the Karowe Mine in Botswana and is said to be the second largest diamond ever found. The mine is operated by a Canadian company, Lucara Diamond Corp.

The report further mentions that the rare gem was discovered using Lucara’s advanced X-ray transmission technology was shown off to the world at the office of the president of Botswana.

The company also found the 1,758-carat Sewelo diamond at the Karowe Mine in 2019. It was bought by the French fashion house Louis Vuitton for an undisclosed amount.
