Ethiopia: Landslide Kills 229

The Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia is a country located in the easternmost part of Africa with a population of about 126 million residents. It is bordered by Eritrea, Djibouti, Somalia, Kenya, and Sudan.

According to reports, days of heavy rainfall have resulted in 2 landslides on Sunday evening and Monday morning that left at least 229 people dead in a remote mountainous area of the Gofa zone southwest of Addis Ababa.

The report further mentions that people who were on the scene to assist in the rescue effort also got trapped, adding to the death toll. About 10 people have been rescued alive and are receiving treatment in the hospital. Search and rescue operations are ongoing as many people are still unaccounted for.
