BMW has issued a recall of 394,029 vehicles in the United States due to faulty airbag inflators.
According to the notice from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the faulty airbag inflators, PSDI-5, manufactured by Takata Corporation, could explode during an airbag deployment, propelling sharp metal fragments that can hit the driver or passenger and cause serious injury or death.
Affected vehicles include 2006 – 2012 BMW 3 Series Sedans and Sportswagon models. BMW dealers will inspect and replace the airbag modules free of charge, with notification letters scheduled to be sent in August 2024.
