Microsoft has agreed to pay the sum of $14 million USD to settle a California agency’s claims that it illegally penalized workers who took Parental and Disability Leave.
According to reports, employees who took leave from work due to pregnancy, disability, or to care for a sick family member received lower bonuses, were denied raises and promotions, and received unfavorable performance reviews.
Microsoft has taken a range of proactive steps to prevent future discrimination and provide monetary relief to employees who used protected leave at the company in California between 2017 and 2024, amounting to $14.4 million USD, which is subject to court approval.
