A fire broke out at the Aricell lithium battery plant in Hwaseong, South Korea, and has resulted in at least 16 fatalities, with approximately 5 people still missing.
According to reports, the fire started after some battery cells exploded in a warehouse containing 35,000 units. The cause of the explosion is currently under investigation, with search and rescue teams still present to locate those who are missing.
The report also mentions that the fire has been contained and operations at the factory have been suspended. Aricell, founded in 2020, is a manufacturer of lithium batteries. These batteries are utilized in various devices, ranging from laptops to electric vehicles.
