Revel started off as an electric moped sharing service company founded in 2018 with headquarters in New York. It discontinued the service in 2023 and now specializes in electric-vehicle taxi service and EV charging stations. The company boasts of having over 500 electric vehicles in operation as of 2023.
According to reports, Revel has announced plans to lay off 1,000 employees, who are the company’s drivers, as it embraces a gig worker model similar to Lyft and Uber.
The laid-off drivers will have the option of staying with the company as independent contractors after September 12, 2024, when the switch will take effect.
The report further states that drivers can sign up to rent from the company’s fleet of Teslas at $10 per hour, which would cover a full day’s charge, insurance, cleaning, and maintenance. Revel also plans to open a platform to drivers with their own EV by 2025.
