The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) is a legal trade union in the country that represents the interests of the working population and is also responsible for improving their employment conditions.
According to multiple reports, the NLC and TUC (Trade Union Congress) embarked on an indefinite strike on June 3, 2024. This is a result of the non-implementation of the new minimum wage, non-reversal of the electricity tariff hike, categorization of consumers into bands, and the government’s failure to finalize negotiations on a new national minimum wage. This led to the shutdown of the national grid and disrupted flights across the country.
The strike is expected to have a ripple effect on key sectors of the economy.
