According to reports, intense rainfall caused by the monsoon has resulted in floods and landslides across parts of Sri Lanka over the weekend, which led to significant damage to homes and infrastructure and at least 7 recorded fatalities.
The report further mentions that schools have been closed and electricity has been cut off in several areas. Landslide warnings have also been issued in 9 districts. Emergency response teams and the country’s navy have been deployed to assist those affected by the floods and provide relief materials.
The monsoon is a seasonal weather pattern that brings significant rainfall, winds, and flooding to certain regions like India, Southeast Asia, and Africa.
