IKEA: $4.5 Million Investment In Australia

IKEA is a Swedish multinational conglomerate that specializes in affordable, stylish, and functional home furnishings and accessories, kitchen appliances, and various other goods and home services. It was founded in 1943 and is headquartered in the Netherlands. As of 2008, IKEA has been the world’s largest furniture retailer.

According to reports, IKEA has announced plans to invest $4.5 million USD to install electric vehicle charging stations in 10 of its retail locations in Australia. The construction at its Central Distribution Center in Sydney will have the capacity to charge up to 28 EVs and is expected to be completed by the end of 2024, but it will only be used by IKEA’s delivery drivers and not the general public.

Other charging stations include three IKEA stores in Tempe, Rhodes, and Marsden Park in New South Wales, as well as in Adelaide, Canberra, and Perth areas, and at its retail stores in Richmond and Springvale in Victoria.

This investment deal comes when Australia’s New Vehicle Efficiency Standard (NVES) is set to take effect in 2025, which aims to decrease greenhouse gas emissions to the same level as CO2 emissions.
