According to reports, a helicopter carrying 8 people crashed near Varzaqan, Iran, on 19 May 2024, killing everyone onboard. The report further mentions that among the victims were Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, the foreign minister, and other senior officers.

The cause of the crash is still unclear, but bad weather and fog in the area are believed to have contributed, which also made search and rescue efforts difficult.
