Amazon Web Services (AWS) has announced plans to invest $8.4 billion USD in Germany over the next 15 years. Amazon will also launch the first European sovereign cloud service in the German state of Brandenburg by the end of 2025.
The AWS European Sovereign Cloud is a service that allows government agencies and regulated industries to store sensitive data and run critical workloads on AWS infrastructure. This infrastructure will be operated and supported by AWS employees who are located in and residents of the European Union.
The report further mentions that the investment deal will create new roles to support the European sovereign cloud. It aims to provide 2,800 full-time jobs annually in local German businesses.
