Guangdong Province, located on the southern coast of the People’s Republic of China, is the most populous province in China, with a population of over 126 million people as of 2020. Guangdong is situated in the Pearl River Delta, one of the most economically developed regions in China, covering an area of approximately 179,800 square kilometers.
According to reports, parts of Guangdong Province experienced intense rainfall that led to severe flooding and damage to infrastructure. About 60,000 people have been evacuated from their homes, while 11 people have been reported missing, with several river banks reaching flood limits.
The report further mentions that about 1.16 million homes lost power over the weekend, but 80% had their electricity restored by Sunday night. Schools have been shut down, and flights have been delayed or cancelled at the international airport in the provincial capital. Search and rescue workers have been deployed to help with the situation and find those who are missing.
