UAE Faces Devastating Floods

According to reports, intense rainfall caused severe flooding in Dubai and disrupted operations at Dubai’s international airport, blocking access roads and runways. The report further mentions that nearly 5.59 inches of rain fell over the course of 12 hours on Tuesday 16 April 2024, which is about a year’s worth of rainfall for the desert city, causing damage to homes and businesses. Schools have been shut down, while government employees were asked to work remotely. There have been reports of 1 fatality. The overall extent of the damages is yet to be determined at this time.

In neighboring Oman, flash floods have killed at least 18 people, including 10 school children.
