State of Emergency in Pakistan

Pakistan, officially referred to as the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, is a country located in South Asia with a population of over 241 million people. It is the world’s fifth-most populous country and has the second largest Muslim population as of 2023. It is bordered by India, Afghanistan, Iran, and China.

According to reports, intense rainfall has struck parts of Pakistan, leading to devastating floods and severe damage to infrastructure in the past three days. This has resulted in 51 fatalities across the country, with most of the deaths occurring when lightning struck farmers who were harvesting wheat.

A state of emergency has been declared, with over 600 homes damaged, 200 livestock dead, and large areas of agricultural land and more than 85 kilometers of roads damaged due to the floods.

Similarly, in Afghanistan, severe flooding has killed 33 people and injured 27 others in the past three days. The report also mentions that Afghan authorities have provided aid to nearly 23,000 families affected by the floods.
