Bolivia, officially the Plurinational State of Bolivia, is a country in South America with a population of 11.4 million residents as of 2019. It is bordered by Brazil, Paraguay, Argentina, Peru, and Chile. According to reports, about 7.2 tons of cocaine valued at $451 million USD was seized by the Bolivian police in the highland region of Pisiga.
The drugs were hidden in two trucks transporting scrap iron for export to Europe through Chilean ports on the Pacific, which was believed to be headed for Belgium. Bolivia is said to be the world’s top producer of coca, the raw ingredient used to make cocaine. This is the second-largest drug bust in the country’s history.
