India: Reliance and Disney Merger

Reliance Industries Limited is a multinational conglomerate that specializes in various industries like energy, retail, mass media, telecommunications, and textiles. Founded in 1958 with its headquarters in Mumbai, India, it is one of the largest companies in the region, and ranks in top 100 companies globally.

According to recent reports, Disney India (Indian subsidiary of the Walt Disney Company) and Reliance Industries have reached an agreement to merge their streaming and television assets into a standalone joint venture. The $8.5 billion USD merger will leave Disney with a 38.84% ownership stake, 16.34% will go to Reliance, and Indian media company Viacom18 would own 46.82%.

This partnership aims to expand the conglomerate’s presence in the massive media market in the region.
