Sainsbury’s to Layoff 1,500

J Sainsbury plc is one of the biggest supermarket holding company in the United Kingdom. Sainsbury’s is the second-largest supermarket after Tesco and was founded in 1869 with its headquarters in Holborn, London. It boasted of being the largest supermarket in the country until the title was taken in 1995.

Sainsbury’s has announced plans to lay off 1,500 employees in a bid to cut costs. The layoffs will affect employees in the contact centre department in Cheshire, bakeries, and select local fulfilment centres, as well as the merchandise distribution network.

The report further states that the restructuring will save the company about £1 billion pounds over 3 years as it seeks to invest more in technology and innovations.
