Life & Immigration: 13

The word rollercoaster sums up the event of this month and gracefully, it ended in thanksgiving. Since the beginning of the year, Incognito Blog has reported layoffs in over 20 companies and a member of the family was missed. Now, this is not a post to speak to their excellence or contributions to the company in question, this is a post saying thank you to God, the universe, and the business leaders.

Layoffs remind citizens of the corporate world that we are nothing but a number on a large excel sheet. Regardless of your degree, seniority, contributions, expertise or skills, a simple business decision can send even the best of us into this turmoil that is the current job market.

In other not so gloomy news, I have become some sort of an expert in my current industry which is hilarious because a few years ago, I knew next to nothing about this field and had to learn from the bottom. Fast forward to this year, I’ve led trainings, been appointed as a liaison, and most recently I was nominated to facilitate a corporate show to educate prospective and existing customers about our offerings.

An exciting highlight of this month for me was meeting with family for a birthday celebration. It was a sunny Friday morning and I got a text from my cousin saying he will be in my city from the US, and for some context, we have not seen each other in half a decade, and the last time we met was in Nigeria.

It was a splendid reunion. I also got to meet his wife and son for the first time, and the little guy put a lot of fries in my expensive coach bag. No harm done with the fries, it was his distraction for the night and to be fair his dad paid for dinner, and our bill cost more than my bag.
