Uber Eats is a subsidiary of Uber, the ride hailing and freight transport company. It was launched in 2014 as UberFRESH, and offers online food ordering and distribution with the help of Uber drivers. Uber Eats is headquartered in California, USA, and boasts of being present in over 6,000 cities, across 45 countries as of 2021.
According to recent reports, Uber has partnered with Cartken, a robotics company, and Mitsubishi Electric, to launch autonomous robot deliveries on the Uber Eats platform in Tokyo, Japan. The innovative distribution model is scheduled to being in March 2024.
The report further mentions that Uber Eats has previously launched autonomous robot deliveries in parts of the USA like Miami, and Virginia, making Japan the first international market to adopt this technology.
