India, the most populous Country in the world as of 2023 with over 1.4 billion residents, is currently riddled with protests by farmers demanding better prices for their produce. The protesters are marching towards the Country’s capital of New Delhi, where they have been stopped by security forces.
According to the BBC, farm leaders have been invited to 4 rounds of meetings with the government, and the offer was reportedly not in the interest of the producers. The report further mentions that the government proposed buying few crops at a guaranteed price on a 5 year contract but the farmers are sticking to their demand of fair pricing on all 23 crops.
