Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Limited (TSMC) is a multinational semiconductor manufacturing and design company that is used by Apple, Qualcomm, Huawei, Intel, AMD, and Nvidia for a series of chips. The company was founded in 1987, with its headquarters in Hsinchu Science Park, Taiwan. It is regarded as one of the largest semiconductor companies in the world.
According to reports, TSMC has announced plans to build a second semiconductor fabrication plant in Japan under its subsidiary, Japan Advanced Semiconductor Manufacturing (JASM). JASM’s first plant is scheduled to begin operation this year, while the construction of the second is expected to commence by the end of 2024 and scheduled to be fully operational in 2027, with the hopes of creating about 3,400 jobs.
This development is as a result of rising customer demands for semiconductors. The report further states that Toyota and Sony have also invested in this project, with the overall investment in both plants amounting to over $20 billion USD. In 2023, Incognito Blog reported a $2.9 billion USD manufacturing plant in Taiwan.
