Toyota has announced a recall of 50,000 vehicles in the United States due to faulty airbag inflators. The report mentions that, deployed airbags are likely to explode and shoot sharp metal fragments, which could result in injury or death. More than 30 deaths have been linked to airbag inflators produced by Takata since 2009.
The affected vehicles include the 2003-2004 model Corolla, 2003-2004 Corolla Matrix, and 2004-2005 RAV4. Toyota issued a “Do Not Drive” notice to affected vehicles and advised owners to visit a dealership for a ‘free of charge’ airbag repair or replacement. The notification letters are being sent out every month through a variety of communication channels.
In 2023, Incognito Blog reported recalls that were as a result of the Takata airbag defect.
