According to reports, Volkswagen will be adding ChatGPT to all its vehicle models equipped with the IDA voice assistant, which is expected to roll out in Europe in Q2 of 2024. The models getting the AI chatbot include the ID.7, ID.4, ID.5, ID.3, and the new Tiguan, Passat, and Golf vehicles.
Cerence provides Volkswagen with a large language model called CaLLM, integrated with ChatGPT, capable of responding to about 10,000 requests, even those unrelated to the vehicle. It is activated by simply saying “Hello IDA” followed by a command or by pressing the button on the steering wheel.
In 2023, Incognito Blog reported Mercedes Benz adding ChatGPT to its MBUX enabled vehicles in the United States.
