Surrogacy is an agreement between a woman and a couple, where the woman agrees to deliver a child on behalf of the couple, who will become the parent of the child after birth. This agreement is sometimes legally binding and may or may not involve cash compensation.
In some countries, it is legal and in others it is banned. Surrogacy is usually an option when couples are unable to have children of their own, either medically or by choice.
According to CNN, Pope Francis, the head of the global Catholic Church, has expressed his dissatisfaction with the idea of surrogacy, as it exploits the situation of the mother’s material needs. The report further mentions that the Catholic Church has long opposed surrogacy, and in the Pope’s statement, he calls for the practice to be prohibited globally.
