New York Times Sues ChatGPT

The New York Times Company is a mass media company that was founded in 1851 with its headquarters in New York, USA. It publishes the New York Times (NYT) daily newspaper, and as of 2023 boasts of a global reported digital readership count of over 9 million subscribers and over 600,000 print subscribers.

According to recent reports, the New York Times has sued OpenAI, ChatGPT’s parent company, and Microsoft, over the alleged training of the chatbot using the newspaper’s content without permission. The report further mentions that the legal team from the New York Times has requested that the court orders the removal of all large language model (LLM) dataset that rely on its copyrighted work.
