Meta, the parent company of Facebook, Instagram, Threads, and WhatsApp, has been fined a sum of $6.4 million USD (5.85 million EUROS) for violating Italy’s ban on gambling advertising. The Italian government placed a ban on gambling advertising in 2018, a sanction that applies to all forms of media and social networks.
Italy’s communications division, Agcom, discovered promotional content related to gambling on 18 accounts (5 on Instagram and 13 on Facebook), along with 32 other published contents. The report further mentions that Meta was aware of the supposedly illegal nature of the advertised content.
