UK & Switzerland: The BFS Agreement

The Swiss Confederation, commonly referred to as Switzerland, is a country located at the intersection of West, Central, and Southern Europe. Boasting of a population of 8.9 million residents, Switzerland is bordered by Italy, France, Germany, Austria, and Liechtenstein.

Since the 16th century, the Country has maintained an armed neutrality policy, a non-combatant status that permanently protects its nationals from all future conflicts. Switzerland is also one of the most developed Countries in the world, with the highest average wealth per adult.

According to recent reports, United Kingdom (UK) and Switzerland have signed a new Berne Financial Services Agreement (BFS) that will allow both countries recognize each others financial regulations. The report further mentions that negotiations for this deal have been ongoing since 2020, and would allow UK based firms serve Switzerland customers and vice versa.

The divisions expected to benefit the most from the new agreement are asset management, wholesale insurance, and banking markets. The Swiss supposedly controls over $2 trillion USD in financial assets.
