Andhra Pradesh is a state located in the southern coastal region of India. It is the seventh largest state and the tenth most populous, with a total of 49.5 million residents as of 2011. The state shares borders with Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, and the Bay of Bengal.
According to recent reports, at least nine people have been killed in Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu due to a storm that has now been classified as a cyclone. The storm made landfall with winds up to 100kmph (62mph), causing significant damage to infrastructure and crops. Approximately 16,500 people have been evacuated to secure areas.
Authorities have issued a red alert, resulting in the closure of schools, colleges, offices, flights, and trains. The Chennai airport, one of the busiest in India, was also closed, and major factories, such as the iPhone production facility, have been shut down due to flooding.
