Halloween, uncommonly known as All Saints’ Eve, All Hallows’ Eve or Allhalloween, is a celebration observed in many countries around the world including the USA, on October 31. Halloween comes from the word ‘All Hallows’ Eve’, the day before All Saints day on November 1 and All Souls day on November 2.
All Souls day, also known as the Commemoration of all the faithful departed, is a day of prayer, intercessions, gift giving, and visits to cemeteries, in remembrance of the faithful departed.
The 31st, 1st and 2nd collectively form the Allhallowtide, a time when some Christians honour the saints, and pray for recently departed souls who are yet to reach Heaven. Halloween is associated with costumes, carving pumpkins, lighting bonfires, telling scary stories, watching horror movies, visiting hunted houses etc.
Have a Happy Halloween!
