Stella Terra: The Solar Powered SUV

Stella Terra is a solar powered SUV that was built by a team of students at Eindhoven University of Technology (TUE) in the Netherlands. This green vehicle (both in color and drive-train) boasts of utilizing the sun as its sole source of power, with the ability to complete long distance journeys of up to 1,000 kilometers.

With a top speed of 145 kilometers per hour, Stella Terra was tested in Morocco earlier in September, driving through rugged terrains between the country’s northern coast and the Sahara Desert. The vehicle supposedly weighs 25% less than the average mid-sized SUV and aims to aid travel through regions without charging stations since its being charged on the move.

According to the report, the Stella Terra is being referred to as “the world’s first off-road solar-powered vehicle” and could help connect local areas with less developed roads and inefficient energy grids.
