The International Union, United Automobile, Aerospace and Agricultural Implement Workers of America, also referred to as the United Auto Workers (UAW), is a trade union that represents workers in Puerto Rico, United States and Southern Ontario, Canada. The union is headquartered in Michigan, USA, and was founded in 1935 to aid the increment of wages and pensions for automotive manufacturing workers.
Members of the UAW work across industries like auto manufacturing, health care, casino, and higher education.
According to recent reports, the United Auto Workers (UAW) have embarked on a strategic stand up strike against General Motors (GM), Ford and Stellantis, 3 of the country’s unionized auto manufacturers. The report cites various demands from the union that have not been met by these companies including increased wages, benefits and job protection for its members.
Over 10,000 members of the union have walked off the job across 3 of the auto assembly plants in Missouri, Michigan and Ohio.
