United States: Burning Man 2023

Burning Man is a 9-day annual event that celebrates community, art, self-expression, and self-reliance. The name ‘Burning Man’ has to do with the burning of a wooden statue, usually a night before the 9th and final day, Labor Day. Founded in 1986 by activist Larry Harvey, the event holds in Nevada, USA, and is reportedly guided by these 10 principles: radical inclusion, gifting, decommodification, radical self-reliance, radical self-expression, communal effort, civic responsibility, leaving no trace, participation, and immediacy.

According to multiple reports, bad weather and unusual rainstorms hit the event venue leading to 1 fatality and leaving multiple thousands of people stranded. Burning Man 2023 was slated for August 27 to September 4.
