California: Hurricane Hilary

California is a state in the western region of the United States of America. It is the largest sub-national economy in the world with a gross regional domestic product of over $3 trillion USD as of 2022.

California covers 163,696 square miles and is also home to over 39 million people making it the most populous constituent state in the US and the 34th in the world.

On August 19, California’s Governor, Gavin Newsom, signed a state of emergency order for Fresno, Imperial, Inyo, Kern, Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego, Tulare, and Ventura Counties, as the National Hurricane Center and Central Pacific Hurricane Center cited impending flooding due to an incoming hurricane (Hurricane Hilary) set for the Baja California and Southwestern US region today August 20.

In the order, the Governor mentioned the deployment of the California national guard to assist affected residents, amongst other provisions.
