Wildfire Leads to Evacuations in Yellowknife

Yellowknife is a city located in the Northwest Territories, Canada. It is the largest community and capital of the Northwest Territory, with an estimated population of over 20,300 people as per census numbers from 2021. The Yellowknife settlement was founded in 1934 and is the traditional home of the Yellowknives Dene (the Dene tribe are an indigenous group of First Nations).

As recently reported by the BBC, a wildfire 15 kilometers from Yellowknife has led to the evacuation of over 7,000 residents of the city. The report mentions multiple evacuation flights leaving the area and long traffic situations on the highway as people struggle to leave their homes. This is reportedly one of the 240 wildfires in the region and authorities are concerned that major roads in and out of the area could be cut off as the fire gets closer.

Incognito Blog has reported multiple wildfires in Alberta, Hawaii, South Korea, and Tenerife.
