The China headquartered short-form video application TikTok, has been facing a series of backlash over privacy concerns and the handling of user data. In April 2023, Incognito Blog reported the ban of the application on Government devices in Australia.
In the United States, Florida State universities approved the ban of the application, followed closely by a bill to ban the same application, approved by the State of Montana. All of these occurred in April 2023.
According to TechCrunch, the Big Apple (nickname for New York City) just joined the list of states to ban TikTok on Government devices. The report says that the New York City Cyber Command recommended the ban of the application following a security review.
Government agencies in the State have been instructed to cease the use of the application immediately, and have it removed from all government issued hardware devices within 30 days.
