In line with its promise to become the everything app, some Nigerian content creators on the social media platform, X, woke up to receive payments for ads displayed on their feeds by the company as they took time to appreciate Elon Musk on the platform. Signaling the global reach of the Ads revenue sharing program.
This means that creators who post contents will be motivated to pay for X premium, as it’s one of the criteria’s for participating in the program.
Others are:
– They must have at least 15 million impressions on their posts within the last 3 months
– They must have at least 500 followers
Eligible creators can apply and set up payments from within the monetization section of the app. It is also important to note that X can accept or revoke your participation in the Ads program, and they have stated that it could be for business, financial or legal reasons.
It will be interesting to see how this program affects the quality of content on Twitter in Nigeria (and generally). Will creators start producing more high-quality content in order to earn tips? Or will the payments simply lead to more spam and clickbait? Stay tuned!
