Nigeria: GSK Halts Direct Operations

GSK plc is a British multinational pharmaceutical and biotechnology company, headquartered in London. Formed through the merger of Glaxo Wellcome and SmithKline Beecham in 2000, GSK is now the tenth largest pharmaceutical company. Amidst tons of contributions, a popular product within the company’s portfolio is the widely used malaria medicine, amoxicillin.

In recent reports, GSK has announced a halt in operations of GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Nigeria PLC, revealing a shift in their approach to the Nigerian market. This change stops direct commercialization efforts for prescription medicines and vaccines within Nigeria through GSK’s local operating entities. The company is going to use a third-party direct distribution model for their pharmaceutical products, hinting at a redefinition of their business strategy within the region.
