The Toronto Caribbean Carnival, also known as Caribana, is a celebration of Caribbean culture held every summer in Toronto, Canada. This pan-Caribbean event is North America’s largest street festival, reportedly gathering around 1.3 million people for its final parade.
The event starts in July and spans several weeks of activities leading up to the grand parade. This is a showcase of costumed dancers, known as Mas players, dancing to Caribbean music, playing through speakers mounted on large trucks.
Caribana has been a yearly occurrence since 1967 and was initially presented as a generous gesture from Canada’s Caribbean community but has since seen various cultural groups partake in festivities that displayed their unique heritage.
Caribana 2023 Parade of Bands is set to hold on August 5.
